Everywhere you look, there is information about the benefits of Vitamin D. People are supplementing for bone health to muscle health, to fight inflammation, improve immune function, and so much more. Please read our previous blogs (on muscle strength and the immune system) for some examples of how very important it really is. Vitamin D is unique amongst other ‘vitamins’ in that it essentially works as a pre-steroid more than it does simply as a vitamin, nutrient, or supplement.
Vitamin D Absorption:
There are 4 ‘vitamins’ that are fat soluble: A, E, D, and K. This means that they are not water soluble, and not readily absorbed. These essential vitamins will not be easy to integrate into our system if we have digestion problems or other issues breaking down fats. Even with proper absorption, we have to first digest these vitamins in the stomach where they then go to get processed in the liver. This requires many steps and can involve a sizable loss of bioavailability.
Can we do better than this?
The simple answer is YES!
We can do far better with bioavailability. We can bypass this entire path by using nanotechnology with fat soluble vitamins. In this case, we are referring to Vitamin D. (Studies on nanotechnology have shown upwards of 90% absorption). For Noetic’s Vitamin D, we start with a superior nanotechnology.
This begs the question: isn’t all nanotechnology the same?

Our entire Vitamin D nanotechnology process is cutting edge. However, we want to focus on just one component that makes our nano Vitamin D different from all the others on the market. The one component I’m talking about is the carrier oil. When our nano Vitamin D is made, each molecule of the Vitamin D gets coated in a carrier oil, which then sits in a water soluble ‘broth’. The type of oil determines how well the molecule will be absorbed in the body. This is only one component of nanotechnology, but it’s an important one.
Most nano Vitamin D products on the market use medium chain triglycerides. This oil tends to be procured from coconuts. It’s a cheap oil that does NOT allow for good absorption with nanotechnology.
Our nano Vitamin D uses a superior oil: Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil that is Cold Pressed. Long Chain triglycerides allow for far better absorption, but they do cost a lot more to use. The cost is immaterial when we consider the added benefits for the bioavailability of the Vitamin D.
Why Olive Oil is Superior:
We follow the research to help validate why we use a long chain triglyceride (olive oil) over a medium chain triglyceride (coconut oil). A great study by Qian,et al, in 2012, looked at this topic with beta carotene (Vitamin A). Vitamin A is another of the fat soluble vitamins we discussed above. The study found that long chain triglycerides provide for superior bioavailability (bioaccessibility). Another great study was conducted in 2015 by Ozturk, et. al. This study discusses different delivery systems for Vitamin D3. Their study proved that long chain triglycerides were superior to any other form of carrier oil.
It’s clear to see that the use of long chain triglycerides simply work better in nano emulsions to aid with uptake of the desired ingredient. We decided to use olive oil as it ‘s viewed by most people as being an extremely healthy oil.
