Labeling Accuracy of Cannabidiol (CBD) Extracts Sold Online

So, you have been hearing a lot about the benefits of CBD and you are ready to give it a whirl for your anxiety, depression, pain, inflammation, mood disorder, digestion issues, sleep problems, craving crush, or whatever…

Where do you go to get it and how do you decide which brand is best?  After all, you have people talking to you about it, and like many, you get emails now almost every day from some company you have never heard of boasting of the positive effects of CBD, now also sometimes called ‘hemp extract.’

Before you go for the low ball, shiny bottle, too good to be true (and it is) great looking offer, consider what the Journal of The American Medical Association recently reported about CBD products sold online.

The November 7, 2017 edition included a nice research letter that discussed what is actually in many of the CBD products sold online. Let’s get to the skinny and we’ll go from there: 26% of brands tested contained less CBD than they were labeled as having. Wow!  26%, or 1 in 4!  That is totally unacceptable.

Unlike most other brands, Noetic Nutraceuticals gets no less than two lab tests to validate claims of CBD dose in our tinctures.  One of the lab tests is from a third party lab to keep things ‘clean.’  It is vital that the tincture you are consuming contains what it says (or more) or you are wasting your money and you are not going to get the benefits you are looking for. Most brands use ingredients that are grown one place, processed by another company, formulated somewhere else, otherwise handled, and then bottled.  This leaves a lot of room for error along the way. Too many hands on your product is not a good thing!

We use a vertical farming process.  Our tinctures are handled by only ONE company from seed to end product.  The quality is unmatched and the ingredients are verified.  We pick which oils to use, knowing that the combination of hemp seed oil and grape seed oil give us the perfect 3:1 ratio of omega 6:3 fatty acids and provide also for omega-9 fatty acids.  Our tinctures are the highest quality on the market and we want you to know that we lab test them to prove this!  We enjoy hearing how people are happy with our products and are glad they switched over as they were not getting results from other brands.

The study evaluated 84 products from 31 companies.  It found that 42.85% of the products were under-labeled (this is allowable as there are no side effects from CBD), 26.19% were over-labeled, and only 30.95% were labeled accurately.  Vaporization products were tested to be least accurate and oils tended to be more accurate.  The biggest issue was that THC, the endocannabinoid that gives you the feeling of being ‘high’ and what shows up on drug tests, was in 18 of the 84 products.  According to the authors, ‘the THC content observed may be sufficient to produce intoxication or impairment, especially among children.’

Important Note**  Our Optimize 1050 mg has over 1050 mg of CBD in the bottle  (really about 1140 mg) even though there may be slight differences in total liquid volume per bottle that occurs during the bottling process.  The additional CBD quantity helps us ensure that each bottle has more than the 1050 mg listed on the bottle.  In effect, you are getting more for less.  We’re not concerned as getting a bit more for nothing is always good!  🙂  As was discussed by the JAMA study, over 40% of the products tested were under-labeled.  In the case of CBD, it’s better to be under-labeled (giving the customer more) than over-labeled (cheating the customer of product).  At Noetic, no corners are cut…be confident that the standards of Noetic Nutraceuticals are unmatched when it comes to quality.

As is the case with any food or supplement, quality matters. What you think you are taking may not be what you are actually taking.  Generally speaking, you get what you pay for.  It’s not worth trying to save a few dollars for a product that is inferior and may actually be harmful. Those using CBD products are doing so for the positive effects…it’s worth it to use quality products to help ensure a great experience.
