We are very excited to offer you our Sammy’s Snacks and Morgan’s Magic as they offer your best buddy the same benefits from a proper functioning endocannabinoid system (eCB or ECS) that you are experiencing. In this case, we are able to say, based on a study, that CBD may help your doggie’s arthritic issues as he/she ages. This is very important as most dogs, especially middle sized breeds and larger, will suffer from some form of arthritis as they age (this is also the case with humans and one reason as to why CBD can work so well for us, too).
A great study published in Frontiers of Veterinary Science titled ‘Pharmacokinetics, Safety, ad Clincal Efficacy of Cannabidiol Treatment in Osteoarthrititc Dogs’ by Gamble et. al (2018) discusses how CBD helps.
One point from the study that is very interesting discusses that the half-life of CBD in doggies appears to be 4-5 hours with terminal half-life at 9 hours. In humans, it has been demonstrated that half-life extends as far as 18-33 hours.
For this study, the researchers used CBD in olive oil. Olive oil is a good oil to use for a tincture base but we prefer to use hemp oil due to its superior omega 3:6 ratio. Although olive oil contributes omega:9, we prefer to use the grape seed oil. Regardless, use of a tincture for humans or animals is preferred as it allows for consistent dosing. In addition, CBD is lipophilic (it likes to be in oil form) and dosing was found in the study to be best at 2x/day.
The authors also discussed all the available research on the topic of CBD and its effects with dog health. The topics include:
1. Reduction of pain and inflammation
2. Reduction of anxiety and phobia
3. Aiding with digestive system issues
4. Reduction of Pruritis (itching)
5. Protection from immune-mediated and inflammatory allergic disorder
6. Anticonvulsant and anti-epileptic effects
In this study, it was found that 2mg/kg of CBD twice daily helped with increasing comfort and activity with dogs suffering from osteoarthritis. At Noetic Nutraceuticals,, we are more interested in the absolute effect of CBD more-so than the dosing what was used in the study.
Wait a second, how can we say this? Doesn’t the study prove that a certain dose works? Well, yes and no. A certain dose is shown to work but who’s to say using less will not work? This is the inherent issue with CBD and those who produce it for commercial products. Because we are dealing with the neurological system, there is no 100% standard. This is why we offer treats and a daily tincture for your fuzzy friend.
Simply put, there is no established dose response curve for the effects of CBD (please read my blog on this topic.). For now, what this means at Noetic Nutraceuticals is that we will create quality products that will harness the power of the eCB without unnecessarily large amounts of CBD that could perhaps (although unlikely) trigger side effects but they could create an ‘overflow’ effect. By ‘overflow’, I refer to products that will give you the great effects of CBD but will give you an excessive amount that will do nothing but cost you a lot of money. We are seeing a lot of this more now as news of the benefits of CBD are becoming more mainstream. We know that CBD does not have many side effects, but if you are going to have side effects, the higher the dose, the greater the likelihood of an issue. As anyone would do with taking a prescription drug, taking only what is prescribed is important. ‘Some is good and more is better’ does not always hold true. This is the case with CBD.
Our Sammy’s Snacks give your doggie a healthy and enjoyable snack/treat with 2mg CBD per treat. Morgan’s Magic gives your doggie a super healthy hemp oil phyto-nutrient rich oil with CBD as a daily CBD supplement. Both products are great for your dog and they are ‘Sully’ approved. Although we have dosing recommendations, we do not feel as though high levels of CBD are necessary. We have many people…uh, dogs…using these products (including Bill’s dog and my dog) and we know that high doses are not necessary or warranted.
Enjoy the NN lifestyle and we are happy that your best doggie buddy can now enjoy the NN lifestyle as well.
Wow! After all I got a web site from where I be capable of in fact take helpful information concerning my study and knowledge.
This is a wonderful, informative post! I have often been questioned about whether hemp products I use such as hemp seed oil and hemp milk are safe and how they relate to the marijuana plant. I never knew the answer to these questions except to say that they are a different part of the plant that doesn’t contain THC. No I truly understand the difference! Thank you
Excellent. We are glad you find the site has valuable information. We will continue to educate as it’s an important part of what we do.
